I’m writing my research papers, I promise, but in looking for court paintings that included dwarves/jesters, I found this, and a things happened. Mainly nobility really liked their portraits to include dwarves/simpletons/”ugly” people just so that they can look cooler and hotter and shit, so I was all, “They’re like the Mean Girls of art history, man.”
Then this happened.Count-Duke of Olivares looked pretty sassy on that horse. Thanks for that, Velázquez.
